Before embarking on a trip abroad it is important to
get the relevant vaccines. There may be a number of jabs that you need
before going away and these will depend on where in the world you are
going and what exactly you will be doing there and for how long. You must
consult your doctor or practice nurse for current immunisation requirements
since these may change from time to time but below is a list of some jabs that you may need:-
Diptheria
Encephalitis (Japanese)
Encephalitis (tick-borne)
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Meningococcal A and C
Polio
Rabies
Tetanus
Typhoid
Yellow Fever
It is advisable to see your doctor/practice
nurse at least 2 months before going away. This is because some take time
to get into your system and others require booster jabs. Recommendations
regarding immunization jabs change and so what a friend had last year
may not be the case this year.
Generally payment is now required for immunisations
since it is you who havs chosen to go abroad Also make sure you keep a
record of your jabs, especially your yellow fever certificate, as some
countries insist on seeing this before they let you in.
We have produced a fairly fairly comprehensive
list of diseases some are far rarer than others. For information on any
of the diseases listed just click on the particular disease of interest.
