Before deciding which course or programme you feel you
would like to participate in, you should spend some time in deciding which
programme or course will suit You.
• Who can take part and what is the selection
process
? What is the age range of the group?
? Is there a choice of programmes with the course I choose?
? What is the selection criteria and their procedures?
? How many other people will be on my course/programme?
• Who will benefit from the programme/course?
? Will I benefit from the programme?
? Who else will benefit from the programme?
? Who has asked the organisation for their help in this programme?
? What benefit is there for young people from the UK helping?
• How will my time be spent on this programme/course?
? What will I be doing?
? How many hours a day are spent working/learning?
? What is expected of me?
? What responsibilities will I have?
? What activities are there after hours, is anything else organised?
• How do I know the programme/course is
bona fide?
? Has the programme/course been checked/vetted and by whom?
? Does the company organising the programme get paid for providing young
people?
? Are the living and meal arrangements provided for?
? Is there a written agreement between me and the organisation/company
running the programme/course? If so what am I agreeing to?
• How much will I have to allow for?
? Exactly how much will the programme/course cost?
? Is it a requirement to Fund Raise part of the funds?
? Is there a deposit to pay, and how much?
? Is the deposit refundable if I needed to cancel?
? When do I need to make the final payment?
? Will I need to make any contribution to accommodation & food?
? Are there any extras I need to budget for?
• What do I know about the Company/Organisation
I am going with?
? How long has it been in business?
? Does it have past examples of programmes/courses run?
? Can you talk with previous young people who have used this company?
? What status is the organisation, is it a Registered Charity, Partnership,
Limited Company, Sole Trader, Public Company or any other?
? How sound financially id the company?
? What do they have in place for emergencies?
• What is covered and who arranges what?
? Who arranges travel visas and entry permits etc?
? Who arranges the travel arrangements?
? Am I covered for travel insurance or do I need to get this myself? Ensure
that medical cover, cancellation cover, baggage & money and repatriation
are all covered.
